The last time we saw Oliveira, he was dominating former No. 1 lightweight contender Tony Ferguson, winning his eighth fight in a row. He’s a terrific grappler and has a UFC-record 14 submissions, and this fight is his chance to break through and solidify himself as a star.

Chandler has already won a lightweight title in the past at Bellator. He has solid wins over Eddie Alvarez, Benson Henderson, Patrick Pitbull, and Dan Hooker and now looks to take the same championship belt at UFC. He’s a great wrestler and striker and will pose a real challenge to Oliveira.

If you want to bet on Chandler, it’s worth noting that Chandler’s last three wins have been by KO or TKO.

Tony Ferguson was one of the hottest fighters anywhere in MMA prior to the pandemic. He was on a 12-fight win streak and was set to fight for a belt in April. And now he’s the underdog against Beneil Dariush, which wouldn’t have been the case a year ago.

Katlyn Chookagian brings a fierce strike to her fight with Viniane Araujo, whose only loss in the UFC was to former title contender Jessica Eye. This shapes up to be one of the best fights of the entire night.

As the world’s golfers get in their final tune-ups for the PGA Championship, a number of the world’s top golfers will be competing in Texas.

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson leads the field at the Byron Nelson, and even though he hasn’t finished in the top 10 since back in February, he is the favorite to win here. He’s currently ninth in driving distance and seventh in scoring average, so the play has been what you expect from the 2020 Masters champion. But his last time out at the Valspar Championship, DJ finished tied for 48th.

Bryson DeChambeau appeared to turn the corner last week after a rough patch that saw him finish tied for 46th at the Masters. He finished in the top 10 at the Wells Fargo Championship after thinking he’d missed the cut on Friday and actually leaving town. He then took a red-eye flight back to Charlotte, made his tee time on Saturday, and put together his two best rounds – back-to-back 68s – since October.

It’s been four weeks since Hideki Matsuyama won the Masters and four weeks of being celebrated as the conquering hero back in Japan. His month even included being the guest of honor for the Prime Minister of Japan.

He is now back in the U.S. and getting in a final tournament before trying to win a second consecutive major.
Underdogs With Value

The eyes of the golf world have been on Will Zalatoris (+2800) since his runner-up finish at the Masters, and this might be the week he gets his first win. He’s a Dallas native and first played in the Byron Nelson back in 2018.

Aaron Wise (+6600) is another under-the-radar golfer coming into the weekend playing good golf. He was a top 10 finisher at the Wells Fargo Championship and saved his best rounds for Saturday and Sunday. He has two top 10 finishes, five finishes in the top 25, and he won the Byron Nelson back in 2018.

Sung Kang (+35000) beat a somewhat weak field when he won the Byron Nelson in 2019. It’s a new course, so most previous Byron Nelson results are hard to judge. But Kang is a member at TPC Craig Ranch and knows the course better than anyone in the field.

There are other golfers out there who might make a buzz in the tournament, so don’t be surprised if one gets ahead of the pack.

Running in the middle from the 14th position is the odds on favorite, Essential Quality. According to the oddsmakers, this is his race to lose. He’s had success at Churchill Downs, with a win at the Blue Grass Stakes and Breeders’ Futurity, and it’s worth noting that the betting favorite has finished either first or second in eight of the last ten Triple Crown races.

Running next to Essential Quality is a turf horse turned dirt, Rock Your World. Suppose you are looking for a favorite that isn’t THE favorite, then you can’t do much better. He ran at the Santa Anita Derby on April 3 and absolutely dominated the field, running from the front the majority of the race and cruising to a pull-away win.

Darkhorse Candidates

It is Kentucky, and the mint julep is made with bourbon, so keep an eye on Midnight Bourbon, running at 20-1. He’s looked great in workouts and is being ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith.

Another of the Kentucky whiskey-named horses is Bourbonic, running at 30-1. Posted on the outside, he will be free of traffic, and no doubt trainer Todd Pletcher, a two-time winner at the Derby, will have him ready to run. He also just won the Wood Memorial to begin the month of April at 72-1, so don’t expect Saturday’s odds to bother jockey Kendrick Carmouche.

Underdogs

You never go in expecting a win from the longest of shots, but there are a few that could sneak onto the board.

Paying 50-1, Helium was a victor at the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby back in March. He hasn’t been tested much, but he’s trained by Mark Casse, who always has his horses properly conditioned.

Another Todd Pletcher trained horse is Sainthood, on the board at 50-1. In his most recent race, he finished in second place at the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks but was closing at the finish and showed real promise for the future.

Dixie Vodka 400 NASCAR Betting Preview

Denny Hamlin is the defending champion here at the Dixie Vodka 400, and he finished 5th at the 500 and 3rd on the road course. He is a solid favorite to win this race and the safest of all the bets.

Joey Logano was a winner at Homestead in 2018, and he’s finished at least 6th or higher in five of his last six starts here. He’s also been an eyelash away from victory in the first two races this season. Logano was leading with just two laps to go on the road course before he was passed by Bell. He was leading on the final lap at the 500 before he and Brad Keselowski collided, allowing McDowell to sneak in for the win.

Ryan Blaney has struggled to begin the season. He finished 30th at the 500 and 15th on the road course. His last time out at Homestead, however, he finished 3rd. And at +1600, he presents a really nice potential payday.

Others to Watch

Just outside the top-10 at 14th on the odds list is Austin Dillon, paying +2500 to win and +1000 to finish top-3. In his last two races at Homestead, he finished in 7th place and 8th place. He’s been running great this month, with a win at the Bluegreen Vacations Duel 2 and a 3rd place finish at the Daytona 500.

And what are the odds that Christopher Bell wins a second straight Cup Series race? As a winner, he is paying +2800 and +700 to finish top-3. First Look at 2021 NFL Draft

We are still a couple of weeks away from the NFL’s new season and the start of free agency. So while we wait for the offseason to kick in, it’s never too early to look ahead to the NFL’s version of Christmas Day – the NFL Draft.

After last year’s event that was done virtually, the city of Cleveland is moving forward with plans to host an in-person draft this year, beginning on April 29th.

The Second Quarterback Drafted

There isn’t any question as to which quarterback is going first. Talking heads are trying to drum up drama, but in the end, it will be Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence. Be it Jacksonville or someone else who has traded up, he will be the top overall pick. But which of the signal callers is going next?

Zach Wilson is the biggest riser of late, as the talk shifts to the struggles of Justin Fields in bigger games. The best team he played this year was a loss to Coastal Carolina, and it was his worst game of the year.

One betting note, Lawrence pays +3300 if instead of going first, he goes second.

Alabama’s Najee Harris scored 26 touchdowns in 2020, and he has the advantage of an Alabama pedigree. Current Tide running backs in the NFL include Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs, Kenyan Drake, and Damien Harris.

NASCAR Continues Its Busy Schedule with More Betting Action

Week 1 of the return of NASCAR finished almost exactly as the pre-race betting odds predicted. On Sunday, it was Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch who went off as the two race favorites, and it was Harvick finishing in first place while the other Busch, older brother Kurt, crossed the finish line in third.

The two-month interruption to the season has not wiped away one of the marquee races of the year. This coming Sunday, on its originally scheduled day, the Coca-Cola 600 will be run. And for this race, because of its importance in the standings, there will be qualifying runs to determine the starting order.

Not surprisingly, the top names you would expect to see are jockeying for position at the head of the odds board.

Martin Truex was the champion of this event in 2019, his second victory in the Coca-Cola 600. Joey Logano finished second in 2019 in NASCAR’s longest race of the year.

Alex Bowman is an interesting bet here at +1200. At Darlington on Sunday, he finished in second place behind Harvick, and the 27-year-old does have a pair of top 10 finishes at Charlotte.

Three Races in Seven Days – Twice

In an effort to run just as many races as originally scheduled, after the Coca-Cola 600 is run on May 24, there will be another Cup Series race at Charlotte on May 27, before everyone moves to Bristol for the Food City 500 on May 31.

Then the action moves to Atlanta on June 7. The Cup Series races at Martinsville on June 10 and again in Miami on June 14. Including the race that was just held at Darlington, that’s a total of seven NASCAR events in only 28 days.
