BMW Championship 2022 Betting Preview

The FedEx Cup Playoffs head to the second event of three, as the PGA’s best move to Delaware for the BMW Championship at the South Course at Wilmington Country Club.

Never again do we have to refer to Will Zalatoris as the golfer most likely to get his first win. He finally finished atop the leaderboard on Sunday, and now Zalatoris can go about the business of trying to win the Cup.

Of course, the entirety of the Tour’s top players are here, and the BMW Championship will feel as close to a Major as you can get.

Rory McIlroy was not great last week in Memphis, and he failed to make the cut. But this is still Rory McIlroy, and the course in Wilmington matches his strengths perfectly. He is the BMW Championship favorite, and his status is deserved.

Jon Rahn has been fairly absent for the last couple of weeks, but in the opening round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, he led the field in greens in regulation, and he finished on Sunday with a T5.

Will Zalatoris was clear after his win last week that it’s great to have the monkey off his back, but that one win has not satisfied his hunger. Part of that hunger is fueled by just how close he has come in the major championships this season. The other part is how close he is now to winning the end-of-season prize.

And don’t sleep on Matt Fitzpatrick even though he’s only eighth on the favorites board. The U.S. Open champion was consistently good at the St. Jude last week, going 68-66-67-68.

Others to Consider at the BMW Championship

He’s no longshot, paying +2500, but Sungjae Im does present some good value when you consider that he was a runner-up twice in the last month, and last week he was 12th.

Max Homa is paying +4500, and he’s largely an afterthought this week. But he won the Wells Fargo in May and was T5 at the Memorial in June. He also got off to a great start last week in Memphis – a first round 66 – before he faded at the end.

A true BMW Championship longshot is Keegan Bradley at +7500. But when it comes to similar courses to Wilmington, he’s played well this year. That includes a T7 at the U.S. Open and a T2 at the Wells Fargo.

The Open Championship 2022 Betting Preview

It’s The Open Championship, being contested for the 150th time in its storied history. It’s at the Old Course at St. Andrews, the birthplace of golf. What else do you need to know to get excited for this weekend in Scotland?

How about the return of Tiger Woods? Or a field that features former great champions, like Stewart Cink, David Duval, Ernie Els, Shane Lowry, and Phil Mickelson. In fact, a total of 18 former champions under the age of 60 are in the field, 40 of the top 50 on the World Golf Rankings are playing, and seven of the top-10 finishers from last year’s Open are here.

Rory McIlroy is the favorite as a past The Open Championship champion and someone with five top-fives in his Open career. Not only is he experienced on links golf courses, he’s coming in playing excellent golf, finishing in the top-10 in five of his last seven starts.

Xander Schauffele is the newest winner of the Scottish Open, following up his win at the Travelers. A third-straight win would be legendary, and especially with it coming at the Old Course in the Open Championship. His best finish in this event was T2 in 2018.

There is also Scottie Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion who finished T2 in the U.S. Open. Matthew Fitzpatrick is the U.S. Open champion, and he just finished T6 at the Scottish Open. Jordan Spieth won this event in 2017, was the runner-up last year, and he just finished T10 at the Scottish Open.

And let’s not overlook the defending champion at The Open Championship, Collin Morikawa, who finished fifth at the Masters this year.

Tiger Woods at St. Andrews

There is a very realistic chance that this will be the final time a competitive Tiger Woods tees it up at St. Andrews. He’s paying +6500, so just how competitive he’ll be remains to be seen. But he withdrew from the U.S. Open to protect his health for this tournament and this course. He won here in 2000 and 2005.

In the words of Woods, “I want to be able to give it at least one more run at a high level.”

He played at St. Andrews twice this weekend while other golfers played the Scottish Open, and twice he walked all 18 holes. His playing partner on Sunday, Justin Thomas, observed, “[Woods’] swing still looks as good as ever.”

The only real question about Woods at The Open Championship: will his leg hold up?

We are a week away from the U.S. Open. So to get themselves one final tuneup before the third major of the season, a large number of top golfers are meeting in Canada for the RBC Canadian Open – the first playing of this event since 2019.

The event in 2020 and 2021 was wiped out because of COVID-19.

Five of the world’s top nine players are in the field, as are both winners of the two majors already held this year – Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas.

Justin Thomas is the PGA Champion who missed the cut his next time out. We’ll forgive that misstep, coming in the post-win glow on his major championship.

He is going to be in the mix this weekend at RBC Canadian Open because this course is made for a golfer like Thomas. He makes all the shots necessary to win here.

Rory McIlroy is the defending champion at this event, but as mentioned, that came three years ago and on an entirely different course. So his defending champion status is just in name only and doesn’t really carry an extra weight when handicapping the field. Him being Rory McIlroy, however, does carry weight.

At +1600, it’s a good idea to give Sam Burns an extra look. In the aforementioned Scottie Scheffler loss in a playoff, it was to Sam Burns.

Burns is currently ranked second in the FedEx Cup standings. Along with his win at Colonial, Burns was top-20 at the PGA, top-10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and a winner at the Valspar.

Betting a Canadian

It’s worth noting that a Canadian hasn’t won the RBC Canadian Open since 1954. Still, there are some Canadians who are worth a look if you want to bet on a longer shot.

Aaron Cockerill is having a great season on the DP World Tour, and even though this week’s tournament is his PGA Tour debut, he has the game to be in the mix on Sunday. He’s paying +20000 to take the W at the RBC Canadian Open.

The Memorial Tournament 2022 Betting Preview

Before we get into The Memorial Tournament 2022 betting preview, let’s take a look at what happened the previous week.

Another week and another tournament that needed more than 72 holes before we could name a champion. Scottie Scheffler battled his way down the stretch to force the playoff at Colonial, only to lose to Sam Burns on the first extra hole.

That exciting finish followed the exciting end to the PGA Championship, and it all sets us up for Jack Nicklaus’s tournament at The Memorial this weekend.

It’s not quite the field we had at the PGA, nor what we’ll see at the U.S. Open in a couple of weeks. But this is one of the bigger non-majors of the season, and many of the best golfers are in Ohio at Muirfield Village to tee it up.

Flashback to a year ago, and Jon Rahm is almost a certain winner as he mowed through the field through three rounds. Then he tested positive for COVID-19, and by rule, he was forced to withdraw. Patrick Cantlay went on to win at -13, while Rahm had to watch on television sporting his -18 through 54 holes.

Do you think Rahm is ready to get back after this course? You bet he is, and this is why he is one of the top bets to win The Memorial.

Rory McIlroy has yet to put together four great rounds in a row, but the flashes of the old Rory that we’ve seen over the last few weeks makes it seem like that complete tournament win is just around the corner. He has a pair of top-10s at The Memorial, but he has played better here than his final results would indicate.

In his last three tournaments, McIlroy was eighth at the PGA, fifth at the Wells Fargo Championship, and second at the Masters.

As mentioned above, Patrick Cantlay is the defending The Memorial Tournament champion here, even if his 2021 tournament win was tainted because of the forced withdrawal of Rahm. But he also won here in 2019, and he shot a -19 that year. There is no asterisk next to that victory.

Yes, he was atrocious at the PGA Championship, missing the cut at +11. But in his two tournaments before that, he was the winner in New Orleans and the runner-up at the RBC Heritage.

The Masters 2022 Betting Preview

It is The Masters week, and as the tradition of golf at Augusta in early April returns, so returns the tradition of finding the golfers who are worthy of your Masters wagers.

The field is currently at 91 after J.J. Spaun won his way to Augusta by taking the Valero Texas Open. And one other not-so-small note about that 91 – it includes Tiger Woods, who has revealed that he may actually play.

More on Tiger in a bit, but first, let’s look at the top favorites in the field.

Jon Rahm has been replaced as the world’s No. 1 player, but he is still the favorite at Augusta because of his recent play here. In his last four Masters appearances, Rahm has finished fourth, T9, T7, and T5.

Scottie Scheffler is the new No. 1 player in the world with three wins in his last five starts, but he is still looking for his first-ever win in a major. In his two previous visits to Augusta, he finished T19 and T18.

Rory McIlroy is just behind Scheffler, and the only hole in his resume is a Green Jacket from Augusta National. His best was a fourth-place finish in 2015. He was also in the top-10 in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020.

Best Value Bets

Will Zalatoris at +4000 deserves a look. He’s only played at Augusta once, but he was the runner-up last year. His lack of a PGA Tour win is why his number is so high.

Matt Fitzpatrick is paying +6600, which makes sense since he’s finished outside the top-20 in his last five starts here. But he did have a T7 in 2016, and why he’s really worth a look is his four top-10 finishes in five PGA starts this year.

And then there is….

Tiger Woods

Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods is on the board at +8000, which is the same odds you can get for Tony Finau and Sergio Garcia, even though we’re not sure that Tiger will play. Although the mere fact that him playing is a possibility is a huge story.

According to Woods, he has walked the course at Augusta and the leg that was nearly lost in a serious wreck 14 months ago was able to handle the workload. Woods says that he will continue to work this week, and he will be a “game-time decision” on Thursday.

Valero Texas Open Betting Preview

The PGA Tour is in Texas for the Valero Texas Open, a final tournament before the Masters, and look for there to be plenty of late-round drama. Not all of the tickets to the Masters have been given out, and if a non-Masters invitee wins this weekend, he will suddenly have new travel plans to make.

It happened in the most dramatic fashion three years ago when Corey Conners qualified for the Valero Texas Open on the Monday before the tournament and then won it, playing the following weekend at the biggest event in American golf.

So keep an eye on the final Sunday groups and who might have added incentive and added pressure over the last few holes.

Most of the world’s best are skipping this final tune-up before the Masters, but favorite Rory McIlroy is here. He’s won the U.S. Open, The British Open, and the PGA Championship, but his best-ever finish in Augusta was fourth in 2015. He played the Valero Texas Open just once before, in 2013, and he finished second.

Jordan Spieth was the winner at the Masters in 2015, the same year that McIlroy finished fourth. The native Texan was the winner at this event in 2021. At the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship last week, Spieth finished 35th.

The aforementioned Corey Conners, a winner here in 2019, is coming off a great third-place showing at the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship. Two tournaments before that, he was 11th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Best Value Bets

At +3500, you should give Chris Kirk a look. He finished T5 at the Arnold Palmer, T7 at the Honda Classic, and T14 at the Phoenix Open.

To go along with his great play over the last two months, he has three top-10 finishes at the Texas Open. A win here would net you a tidy sum and put Kirk in the Masters for the first time since 2016.

Another golfer at +3500 deserving of consideration is Gary Woodland. He had T5s at both the Arnold Palmer and Honda Classic, and last year at the Valero Texas Open, he finished with a T6.

If you’re really feeling it, Luke List is paying +5000. He’s not been good since his win at Torrey Pines two months ago, but he does have that win, and he was inside the top-20 at this tournament last year.
