In NFL Week 3, survivor pools were left in tatters after the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Arizona Cardinals and the Baltimore Ravens lost to the Indianapolis Colts. Miami Dolphins (+2.5) at Buffalo Bills

There is no greater example of the week-to-week nature of the NFL than the fact that one week after winning 70-20, the Dolphins are road underdogs.

Sure, Miami has a bad history in Buffalo. They’ve lost seven in a row when visiting the Bills. But they nearly won in the playoffs in January with Skylar Thompson at quarterback, and this year’s Miami team just feels different.

Washington Commanders (+8) at Philadelphia Eagles

You will be forgiven for not taking the Commanders in this one, considering how bad things got last week against the Bills. But this is a divisional game (always close), and don’t forget that last year, an undefeated Eagles team dropped their first game of the year to a lesser version of the Commanders.

Washington has the defense and the running game to keep this NFL game close, and until Jalen Hurts irons out his inconsistencies in the passing game, Philadelphia will get more tight wins than blowouts. Washington knows how to play the Eagles tight, and they will do it again on Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns (-3)

Even with a bad Deshaun Watson last season, the Browns and Ravens split, with Cleveland winning at home. The year before that, with a bad Baker Mayfield, the teams also split, each winning on their home field.

Now the Browns are getting average play from Watson and otherworldly play from their defense – Cleveland has the best scoring defense in the NFL, giving up just 10 points per game.

The Nick Chubb loss looks to be big, as the Browns mustered almost no running game last week against the Titans. But Baltimore is dealing with multiple injuries at multiple positions, and that will make it too hard for them to overcome the defense or the crowd in Cleveland.

Kansas City Chiefs (-9.5) at New York Jets

This is Patrick Mahomes’ first career start in New York. Hall of Famer Joe Namath is hoping this is Zach Wilson’s final start in New York.

Yes, the Jets have a great defense. But so do the Chiefs, and they have Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Word is that Taylor Swift will also be in attendance, and Kansas City is 1-0 against the spread when she is in the building.

NFL Week 3 Betting Picks

The NFL loves its parity, and after two weeks of football, we are down to just six undefeated teams – the Bills, Dolphins, and Chiefs in the AFC, and the Eagles, Giants, and Buccaneers in the NFC.

That is the fewest 2-0 teams in the NFL since divisions realigned in 2002. It’s also worth noting that there are only five teams that are 0-2, and that’s a magic number because last season, we had seven 0-2 teams, and not one of them made the playoffs. Three of the five teams at 0-2 this year were playoff teams in 2021.

It’s the best league, anything can happen, and anything can happen when you place your bets.

Baltimore Ravens (-3) at New England Patriots

It is a week for road favorites, and the first of these is the Baltimore Ravens visiting the New England Patriots.

Lamar Jackson isn’t likely to have another perfect week, but he is clearly playing at the top of his game, and he should have another big week. The Ravens’ defense also won’t collapse, as it did against the Dolphins. Instead of trying to contain Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, a challenge for a banged-up secondary, the Patriots have Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor.

Advantages to the Ravens in all three phases of the game have them covering the field goal spread.

Kansas City Chiefs (-7) at Indianapolis Colts

No team has started this season worse than the Indianapolis Colts, and Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense is just fine without Tyreek Hill.

Kansas City had some problems with the Chargers’ wide receivers, but that is a weakness of the Colts, as is their offensive tackle situation. Shutting down Indy isn’t hard to do right now (see: Week 2 at Jacksonville), and the Chiefs will find the end zone at least four times.

Kansas City rolls to a big win in Indianapolis.

Buffalo Bills (-5.5) at Miami Dolphins

Good on the Miami Dolphins for their comeback win over the Ravens. But don’t forget, they were down 35-14, and against a better NFL team, that comeback never happens, and Miami loses big.

Buffalo is that better team. The best team in the NFL at this stage, coming off two giant wins over two of the best teams in 2021. Super Bowl champion Rams, no problem. They beat them by 21. The No. 1 playoff seed in the AFC in the Titans, they barely break a sweat. The Bills beat them by 34.

Buffalo is scary good, and they go into Miami and win by well over a touchdown.

NFL Week 1 Betting Picks

The NFL is back this weekend, and that means the absolute, very best sports betting is also back, with 14 games on Sunday and a 15th coming Monday night in Seattle.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (-3.5)

Even with Tom Brady, the Patriots had issues playing in Miami, and now the Dolphins have one of the fastest offenses in football.

The two-headed offensive monster of Matt Patricia and Joe Judge sounds like a disaster in the making, and on Sunday, the Dolphins will take full advantage.

Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5) at Los Angeles Chargers

This is the game that ended the 2021 regular season, and it was a doozy, with the overtime winner going to the playoffs (the Raiders) and the loser (the Chargers) going home.

Justin Herbert lit up the scoreboard that night, and he will do it again. But the Raiders now have Davante Adams, L.A. addition J.C. Jackson is not going to play, and with the superior Daniel Carlson as their kicker, this is going to be a field goal game.

Take Las Vegas and the points, and consider the Raiders on the moneyline too.

San Francisco 49ers (-7) at Chicago Bears

The Bears have one of the worst rosters in the NFL, and even with a quarterback that is largely an unknown, the 49ers have one of the best rosters in the NFL.

Don’t be too worried about Trey Lance. This 49ers team is going to be good, and against a team like Chicago, who is expected to get a top-five draft pick next year, the 49ers will look great. This is going to be an easy win for San Francisco, and they will cover the touchdown spread.

Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks (+6.5)

Seattle traded its franchise quarterback to Denver in the offseason, and just last week, the Broncos signed him to a huge contract extension that will keep him in the Mile High City for the next seven years.

No question that Russell Wilson wants to win this game more than any other on the schedule, but this Seahawks roster is better than many people are giving it credit for. The Broncos are the better team, but it will be an emotional night at home, and the Seattle defense will keep the final score to less than a touchdown.

As the NFL rounds the quarter pole on the season, we take a look at the best point spreads to bet in Week 5.

Green Bay Packers (-3) at Cincinnati Bengals

The Packers’ start to the season is a distant memory. From a blowout loss to New Orleans to three straight good wins and three wins in a row against the spread.

Aaron Rodgers is fine. His offseason is a non-factor. Aaron Jones, playing with his father’s ashes, looks like the star he is, and when he’s not finding running lanes, he’s catching passes. And as pass catchers go, no one is better than Davante Adams.

The Bengals are also 3-1 on the season, but injuries are becoming an issue, and they most recently played an uninspiring game against the Jaguars.

The Packers go into Cincinnati and win by a touchdown.

Miami Dolphins at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-10)

The Dolphins are still a week away from getting Tua Tagovailoa back, which means it’s Jacoby Brissett under center for another game. And this time, it’s a game at the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers.

The Bucs have failed to cover the spread for two straight weeks and are just 1-3 on the season ATS. But those three losses have come against teams proving to be better than we thought they were. The Dolphins are failing to cover the spread against the likes of the then-winless Indianapolis Colts.

NFL Week 5 Betting Picks of the WeekMiami is one of the biggest disappointments of the early season, and it will get worse this week with a loss at Tampa Bay by at least two touchdowns.

Philadelphia Eagles (+3.5) at Carolina Panthers

Carolina was the most unlikely of the undefeateds through three weeks, and now we’re wondering just how far the fall will be without Christian McCaffrey. Maybe not too far, but far enough that they shouldn’t be more than a field goal favorite against the Eagles.

Jalen Hurts is playing well, and the Eagles front-seven will keep Sam Darnold off-balance all afternoon. If the Panthers do manage to rebound for the win, it will be by less than three points. Take the points and the Eagles.

Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars (+4.5)

The Titans defense is going to be a liability all season long and against all opponents – even the bad ones. The Jaguars are definitely a bad team, but Tennessee just got torched by Zach Wilson, and Trevor Lawrence will have a big game on Sunday.

The Jags may not pull off the upset, but the bad Titans’ defense keeps this game to within three points. You may not want to do it often, but this week take the Jags.

Teams With Biggest Additions and Subtractions During NFL Free Agency

As much of the world remains on lockdown because of the coronavirus crisis, most of the sports world sits dark. But that does not mean that there isn’t anything to bet, or any major sports making news.

The NFL’s new league year kicked off two weeks ago, and several teams have gotten better, while some teams have gotten worse.

Biggest Additions

Arizona Cardinals

Kenyan Drake and Larry Fitzgerald are staying put, which is a big win for the Cardinals. But the coup de grace came when Arizona traded away David Johnson (expendable because of Drake) for one of the best wide receivers in football, DeAndre Hopkins.

Quarterback Kyler Murray now has all the weapons he needs to really show how good he can be.

Miami Dolphins

Loaded with draft capital and cap space, and sensing a change in the landscape of the AFC East, the Dolphins have been major buyers at the start of this offseason. Cornerback Byron Jones, linebacker Kyle Van Noy, and defensive end Shaq Lawson are the biggest names Miami has added.

The Dolphins also have three first-round draft picks and two in the second, so plenty more solid additions are on the way.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Volume-wise the Bucs have been rather tame, as just one significant addition has been signed by Tampa Bay. But it’s the name of names, the biggest prize ever to hit free agency, five-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.

One thing is certain – the Bucs will not see 30 interceptions from their quarterback next season. A tough NFC South just got that much tougher.

Biggest Subtractions

Houston Texans

Houston Texans fans don’t want to be reminded of it anymore, but they have been the biggest losers of any team so far. Not only did they send away their young quarterback’s favorite weapon in Hopkins, but they got almost no value in return.

The Vikings got a much better haul when they traded away wide receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason. And considering Houston doesn’t draft until the 57th pick, this offseason isn’t getting any better.

Los Angeles Rams

The 2018 NFC Champions will go into 2020 just a shell of their former selves. Gone are Todd Gurley, Clay Matthews, Dante Fowler, and Corey Littleton.

It’s hard to believe, but the Rams might actually be only the fourth-most talented team in their division following the slew of cap casualties. They also won’t draft until 52nd overall, so very little young and inexpensive help is on the way.
