Week 2 NFL Betting Preview

In NFL Week 1, the Detroit Lions got the win that justified their preseason hype. The San Francisco 49ers looked like the best team in the NFL, with the Dallas Cowboys right behind them. While the Seattle Seahawks underperformed massively, as did the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills.

It was a wild week in the greatest reality show on earth, and Week 2 promises more of the same.

NFL Pick: Las Vegas Raiders (+9) at Buffalo Bills

Where is the respect for the Raiders? They were four-point underdogs last week in Denver, and Las Vegas won the NFL game outright by stretching out of their time of possession and limiting the number of times the Broncos had the ball.

Now they are nine-point underdogs at b, a team that just lost to a reeling Jets team. If ever there was a win there for the taking, it was the Bills at the Jets, and they couldn’t get it done. Buffalo will probably get the win this week, but the spread is much too big. Look for the Raiders to cover.

NFL Pick: Baltimore Ravens (+3.5) at Cincinnati Bengals

Another underdog worth taking this week is the Baltimore Ravens. They covered the spread at home in Week 1, and now they get their top rival for the AFC North crown, a Bengals team that looked terrible at Cleveland.

Joe Burrow won’t be nearly as bad as he was last week, but the offensive line is a real concern. Instead of the new and improved line we were promised, they were a major liability. Baltimore will be able to exploit that and keep this game close.

At 2.5 points, you might want to avoid this game, but when the Ravens are getting more than a field goal, take it.

NFL Pick: San Francisco 49ers (-7.5) at Los Angeles Rams

The Rams had an excellent showing in their Week 1 win at Seattle, and the offensive explosion came without Cooper Kupp. Turns out Matthew Stafford is still a very good quarterback, and Sean McVay is a very good NFL coach.

But, did you see the 49ers in Pittsburgh? They dominated the Steelers on both sides of the ball, and there is no reason to think that they can’t do the same at SoFi Stadium this weekend. And when you consider that the 49ers have covered each of the last seven games against their rival Rams, this bet becomes obvious.

The Rams are better than we thought, but they are still a young team that will struggle against the completeness of the 49ers. San Francisco wins this game and covers the spread.

NFL Week 1 Betting Picks

The NFL is back this weekend, and that means the absolute, very best sports betting is also back, with 14 games on Sunday and a 15th coming Monday night in Seattle.

Even with Tom Brady, the Patriots had issues playing in Miami, and now the Dolphins have one of the fastest offenses in football.

The two-headed offensive monster of Matt Patricia and Joe Judge sounds like a disaster in the making, and on Sunday, the Dolphins will take full advantage.

Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5) at Los Angeles Chargers

This is the game that ended the 2021 regular season, and it was a doozy, with the overtime winner going to the playoffs (the Raiders) and the loser (the Chargers) going home.

Justin Herbert lit up the scoreboard that night, and he will do it again. But the Raiders now have Davante Adams, L.A. addition J.C. Jackson is not going to play, and with the superior Daniel Carlson as their kicker, this is going to be a field goal game.

Take Las Vegas and the points, and consider the Raiders on the moneyline too.

San Francisco 49ers (-7) at Chicago Bears

The Bears have one of the worst rosters in the NFL, and even with a quarterback that is largely an unknown, the 49ers have one of the best rosters in the NFL.

Don’t be too worried about Trey Lance. This 49ers team is going to be good, and against a team like Chicago, who is expected to get a top-five draft pick next year, the 49ers will look great. This is going to be an easy win for San Francisco, and they will cover the touchdown spread.

Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks (+6.5)

Seattle traded its franchise quarterback to Denver in the offseason, and just last week, the Broncos signed him to a huge contract extension that will keep him in the Mile High City for the next seven years.

No question that Russell Wilson wants to win this game more than any other on the schedule, but this Seahawks roster is better than many people are giving it credit for. The Broncos are the better team, but it will be an emotional night at home, and the Seattle defense will keep the final score to less than a touchdown.

Denver wins, but Seattle covers.

NFL Preseason: Hall of Fame Game Preview

The Hall of Fame Game is rarely good.

Starters almost never play, and if they do, it’s only for a handful of plays. Coaches run offenses that would be vanilla by Pop Warner football standards. The only real goal of the evening is to not get hurt.

And none of that matters because it’s live football for the first time in six months, and it feels so good to have it back.

Hall of Fame Game: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Las Vegas Raiders (-2)

It is not a coincidence that both the Jaguars and Raiders have former players being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. The teams for this game are chosen with the knowledge of that year’s Hall of Fame class, and when possible, a notable inductee will match up with a team playing in the game.

The Raiders have former wide receiver Cliff Branch going into the Hall this weekend, the 18th player in team history to be enshrined. The Jaguars have Tony Boselli, their first-ever member of the Hall of Fame.

Raiders fans are notoriously good travelers, not to mention a much larger fan base than what you see in Jacksonville. There is expected to be a large sea of silver and black at the game, which may be one reason the Raiders are the favorite here.

They are, of course, also coming off a playoff appearance, as compared to the Jaguars, who had the worst record in the NFL.

We do know with certainty that quarterback Trevor Lawrence will not play on Thursday night. New Jags head coach Doug Pederson made the announcement earlier in the week and added;

“Trevor’s been getting a lot of great looks here in practice and we feel he’s in a good spot.”

Jake Luton will get the start.

A bit more surprising was the news that second-year running back Travis Etienne, who missed his entire rookie season, will also miss the game. He was out of practice on Tuesday because of illness, and he will remain out the rest of the week.

New Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels hasn’t been specific on who will and won’t suit up on Thursday, but we can expect most of their top starters to be in street clothes. The team has suffered a number of injuries along the defensive line, including new EDGE rusher Chandler Jones, and they don’t want to risk anymore.

For McDaniels, however, this Hall of Fame Game is special. McDaniels grew up in Canton, Ohio, and as a high school quarterback, he played in Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, where he was coached by his dad.

NFL Opening Round Playoff Picks

NFL Wild card weekend is here, and the only thing as good as the football from Saturday through Monday night, is the betting.

Las Vegas Raiders at Cincinnati Bengals (-5.5)

The Bengals haven’t won a playoff game in 31 years, losing eight straight playoff games since beating the Houston Oilers 41-14. That eight-game losing streak began with a 20-10 loss to the Raiders, and the streak will end with a win over the Raiders by at least a touchdown.

For the Raiders, this will be their third straight postseason loss.

New England Patriots (+4) at Buffalo Bills

For the third time in just over a month, the Patriots and Bills meet, and that kind of familiarity favors the experience of Bill Belichick.

The Bills offense has struggled since they played the Patriots in Week 16. Josh Allen threw three interceptions in Week 17 and completed just 53 percent of his passes in Week 18.

The Bills may still win, but the Patriots’ defense keeps it to within a field goal.

Philadelphia Eagles (+8.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Except for two games with the Panthers, the Bucs haven’t looked great this last month. There was the near-miss against the Jets, a shut out to the Saints, and a trainer’s room full of injuries.

Tom Brady is still Tom Brady, but the 109 yards given up on the ground to Josh Allen in Week 14 is a sign that the top rusher among NFL quarterbacks, Jalen Hurts, and the top-ranked rushing team, the Eagles, will keep this game close.

San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys (-3)

A month ago, it was said that if the Cowboys re-discovered their offense, they were going to be really tough to beat in the postseason. Two 50-burgers in the last three weeks, and this offense, coupled with a defense that ranks seventh in points allowed, should roll at home.

The Niners earned their way into the playoffs, but they will be bounced by more than a touchdown.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs (-13.5)

In 19 playoff games, we have seen a point spread as high as 13 points. The favored team is 18-1 overall (the one loss was by the Rams to the Patriots in the Super Bowl), and against the spread, the favored team is 11-7-1.

The Steelers lost to Kansas City, 36-10, three weeks ago, and that was without Travis Kelce. He’s playing, and the Chiefs win this game easily.

Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams (-4)

The Cardinals did get the win in Dallas in Week 17, but they’ve lost the other four of their final fives games and too bad teams in Detroit and Seattle. The Rams backed into the division championship with their own loss in Week 18 but have enough firepower to win this game by a touchdown.

NFL Week 17 Betting Picks

Two weeks remain in the NFL regular season, and there are only two weeks left of a full sixteen games for us to bet on each week. As the teams jockey for final playoff positioning, these are the four games you should give an extra look at in NFL Week 17.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-12.5) at New York Jets

The only fear here is that the Bucs will get up by so much that they’ll take their foot off the gas, and the Jets will get a late score to stay inside two touchdowns.

That fear, however, is small. Tom Brady loves playing the Jets, and here his competitive nature will serve you well. He wants a Super Bowl, but he also wants another MVP award, and that will lead him to pour it on his old division rival.

The Tom Brady show will have Tampa Bay winning this game by at least 17 points.

Los Angeles Rams (-3.5) Baltimore Ravens

These are two teams heading in completely opposite directions.

The Rams have won four straight games, covered all four, and have clinched a playoff berth. L.A.’s next goal is to secure the NFC West title.

The Ravens have lost four straight, gone 2-2 ATS, and have completely fallen out of the playoff picture. And another week goes by, and another cornerback does down with an injury.

The Ravens simply don’t have enough left to win this game and save their season. The Rams win, and they win by at least a touchdown.

Las Vegas Raiders (+6.5) at Indianapolis Colts

The Raiders defense is not equipped to handle Jonathan Taylor. He will get his yards, and the Colts will get their points. But even when Taylor is at his best, those points from the offense don’t get too high.

Taylor was great against the Cardinals, and Indy scored 22. He ran for 170 against the Patriots, and their final tally was 27.

Derek Carr is having a good season, and he expects to have Darren Waller back, and that will make a huge difference for the Raiders in keeping this game close. The Colts will still win, but Las Vegas only loses by a field goal.

Houston Texans (+13) at San Francisco 49ers

Is an injured Jimmy Garoppolo better than a still very raw Trey Lance?

After Garoppolo tore a ligament in his thumb last Thursday, the effects were obvious. He struggled to grip the football and throw it, and most doctors agree that he won’t be able to play this week or even again this season. However, the 49ers haven’t ruled him out just yet.

Regardless, the Texans are playing spirited football and covered two weeks in a row, and with a big 13-point spread against the 49ers, they will cover for a third straight week.

NFL Week 13 Betting Picks of the Week

Los Angeles Chargers at Cincinnati Bengals (-3)

One of the most compelling games of Week 13 is the Chargers at the Bengals. Justin Herbert vs. Joe Burrow. One team that’s a puzzle vs. one team figuring it out.

At one point, the Chargers were 4-1 and looking like the AFC’s best. Since then, they’ve lost four of six and just got manhandled by the Broncos. As good as Herbert is, his defense is the opposite. Against the run, they rank dead last in the NFL.

So forget about Burrow on Sunday because it’s all about Joe Mixon. He had 123 rushing yards two weeks ago, 165 last week (both wins), and he will have a third straight big day.

Mixon leads the Bengals to the win and the cover.

Indianapolis Colts (-9) at Houston Texans

The Texans did beat the Titans, but that says more about the Titans without their offensive stars and a league that can see anyone win if the ball bounces the right way.

Following that win, the Texans went out and lost to the Jets and looked like a team that, if not for the Lions, would be the worst in the NFL.

The Colts are coming off a loss to the Bucs, but that was against one of the Super Bowl favorites. And against a fairly good defense, they put up 31 points. This game is not against a fairly good defense, and Jonathan Taylor should run wild.

Indianapolis may have lost the division last week, but they will win this week by at least two touchdowns.

Washington Football Team (+2.5) at Las Vegas Raiders

It was a good and needed performance by the Raiders on Thanksgiving. Las Vegas had lost three straight games, and the last two by huge margins.

Meanwhile, Washington is riding a three-game winning streak. Yes, the last two came against the Panthers and Seahawks. But they covered both of those spreads, and those games came on the heels of their biggest win of the year, a 10-point victory over Tampa Bay.

The way to handle the Raiders is with your running backs. Joe Mixon rushed for 123 yards, and the Bengals won easily. Darrel Williams had 101 yards receiving out of the backfield, and the Chiefs won easily. And Washington has two very good running backs in Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic.

The two accounted for 202 total yards and two touchdowns last week. The week before, it was 145 yards and two scores. This week they have another big game, and Washington will cover for the fourth straight week.

NFL Week 7 Betting Picks

We’ve had a change at the top of the AFC, with the Ravens now in the driver’s seat for the top seed. Meanwhile, the Cardinals keep winning in the NFC and are the unchallenged favorites.

As for the top bets that you should look at for NFL Week 7, here they are.

Washington Football Team at Green Bay Packers (-9.5)

Just as impressive as Green Bay’s five-game winning streak is the five straight games in which they have covered the spread. And in three of those games, they won by at least 10 points, which would be enough to cover this week too.

Meanwhile, Washington is an abysmal 1-5 against the spread this season and running back Antonio Gibson continues to get even more banged up.

It’s Packers all the way. They win by at least two touchdowns.

Cincinnati Bengals (+6.5) at Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens were dominant last week, but most of their games have come down to the final play or two, and most are within one score. And in spite of a 5-1 record that leads the AFC, they are just 3-3 against the spread.

Meanwhile, the Bengals have had a margin of victory/defeat of exactly three points in four of their six games played – three-point losses to Chicago and Green Bay and three-point wins over Minnesota and Jacksonville.

This game will be close, and if not exactly three points, it will be less than seven. Look for Cincinnati to cover.

Philadelphia Eagles at Las Vegas Raiders (-3)

The Raiders avoided a three-game losing streak by easily handling their business at Denver. So to everyone who thought there would be a significant hangover following the departure of Jon Gruden, think again. Las Vegas played with freedom against the Broncos that we hadn’t seen before.

The Eagles played the Bucs tight and covered the spread. But Thursday games are always unpredictable. Prior to a win against Carolina the week earlier, the Eagles had failed to cover in three straight games. Raiders win this game by at least a touchdown. Take Vegas and lay the points.

Kansas City at Tennessee (Over 55)

The Chiefs did go under on Sunday against Washington, but that was because of some uncharacteristically good defense out of Kansas City. Offensively they did their part, scoring 31 points. Prior to that game, they had point totals of 58, 72, 54, 71, and 62.

They love going over, as do the Titans. Tennessee has hit three straight overs with 65, 56, and 51 points. It’s also worth noting that the two teams played twice in 2019, and they combined for 67 points in the regular season and 59 points in the AFC Championship Game.
