NCAA Football Week 13 Betting Picks

by WagerHome Blog on November 21, 2022

Rivalry week is upon us, and for the first time since 2006, we’re going to get Michigan-Ohio State with both teams undefeated. The stakes for the Big Ten, the NCAA Football Playoff, and the rivalry to end all rivalries, is enormous.

One of the strangest NCAA football results of last weekend was Tennessee, not just getting upset by unranked South Carolina, but getting blown out. Their hopes of sneaking into the CFP are now over, and the injury to quarterback Hendon Hooker has ended his season.

No. 3 Michigan (+7.5) at No. 2 Ohio State

For the 13th time in the history of THE Game, Michigan and Ohio State are both ranked in the top five. This is the 26th time they have both been in the top 10 and the 49th time both have been ranked. There simply is no college football rivalry in America that compares.

Neither team excelled in their tune-up NCAA football games, but the Buckeyes, at home, are the most likely of the two to go back to normal. But will a Michigan defense allowing just 12 points per game in the Big Ten really lose by more than a touchdown? No. OSU wins, but the Wolverines cover.

Auburn (+21.5) at No. 8 Alabama

There is no path for Alabama to make it into the College Football Playoff, so they are just going to have to settle for beating their in-state rival this Saturday. And it’s something they enjoy doing. Alabama has won the last two Iron Bowls, six of the last eight, and they will win this one.

But the Tide hasn’t covered a point spread since October, and they won’t cover here either. Take the Tigers and the points.

No. 13 Notre Dame at No. 5 USC (-5.5)

Thanks to Michigan and Ohio State, we know that one of the top four teams is going to lose on Saturday. And there is USC, poised to take the loser’s spot and play their way into the NCAA Football Playoff.

Step One in that plan is to beat the rival Irish from Notre Dame, which they will do by more than a touchdown.

Kansas at No. 15 Kansas State (-12)

After a 5-0 start, the Kansas Jayhawks season has gone south. They are bowl eligible, but they have lost five of their last six NCAA football games. You know what would end the season on a high note? Beating their Kansas State rivals and keeping the Wildcats out of the Big 12 Championship.

It would be a great end to KU’s season, but their last four losses have all been by double digits, and K-State has everything to play for. The Wildcats win and cover and move on to the Big 12 Championship against TCU.

Final Four NCAA Betting Picks

by WagerHome Blog on March 30, 2022

If you love the traditional powers of college basketball, this is your dream Final Four.

The first coach at Kansas was the inventor of basketball, James Naismith. North Carolina plays its games in the Dean Smith Center, who played at Kansas before becoming a Hall of Fame coach in Chapel Hill.

Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski is the winningest coach in college basketball history. And at Villanova, two-time National Champion Jay Wright is also a Hall of Fame head coach.

It’s the battle of the blue bloods on the bayou.

No. 2 Villanova vs. No. 1 Kansas (-4.5)

If there is a cloud hanging over the Final Four this weekend, it’s the injury suffered by Villanova guard Justin Moore. He tore his Achilles in an Elite Eight win over Houston, and he is out. It’s a big loss for a team that primarily uses a six-man rotation.

In steps, senior Caleb Daniels, who will likely start in Moore’s place. Daniels had 12 points against Houston in the last round, and he has come up huge for the Wildcats in big games this season. He scored 20 in a two-point win over Providence to begin March and added 19 in a one-point win over St. John’s in the Big East Tournament.

Kansas has its own sixth man leading the way in Remy Martin, who was just named Midwest Region Most Outstanding Player. He scored 20 against Creighton and 23 against Providence, and he, along with Ochai Agbaji and Christian Braun, give Kansas the most talented trio of guards in the country.

However, as good as Kansas is, they are average against the spread. The Jayhawks are 19-19 overall ATS and just 2-2 in the NCAA Tournament. Villanova is 20-15-2 ATS on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the tournament.

Final Four NCAA Betting Picks

No. 8 North Carolina vs. No. 2 Duke (-4)

Duke and North Carolina have been battling on the court for over a century, but for the first time in the rivalry’s 257-game history, they are meeting in the NCAA Tournament.

That by itself would make this a game for the ages. But for this Final Four matchup, we get the added storyline of Mike Krzyzewski, the winningest coach in the history of college basketball and in the history of the NCAA Tournament, coaching in his last of 13 career Final Fours.

As for the young men who are chasing their NCAA championship dreams, North Carolina is led by the trio of Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, and Brady Manek. For Duke, its future NBA first-round picks Paolo Banchero, Mark Williams, and AJ Griffin.

Against the spread, North Carolina is 4-0 in the NCAA Tournament and has covered in eight of its last nine. Duke has covered in three straight but failed to cover in the five games before that.

Favorites, Underdogs, and Darkhorses – Betting Odds to win NCAA Basketball National Championship

by WagerHome Blog on February 24, 2022

We are just over three weeks away from Selection Sunday, the date that the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee fulfills dreams and breaks hearts.

There are some teams already guaranteed a spot in the dance, and they are favorites to be in the Final Four. While most of the rest of the field is hoping to try on Cinderella’s slipper for the three-week journey to the Final Four in New Orleans.

National Championship Favorites

Last weekend the NCAA Selection Committee released its current snapshot of what their top-16 looks like, and their favorites largely coincide with the betting favorites.

Gonzaga is the much-deserved top dog, currently paying +450. The Bulldogs are also the top-ranked team in the polls and by the Selection Committee. The second-ranked Auburn Tigers – in the eyes of the Selection Committee – is actually fourth in the current betting odds, paying +1000.

Kentucky was sixth in the released weekend bracket, but the Wildcats are actually second in betting odds, paying +800. The Wildcats from Arizona are the third-highest betting favorite, paying +850.

The Selection Committee gave one of its top seeds to Kansas, the same bracket where Kentucky is the No. 2 seed. But the Jayhawks are paying +1600 to win the National Championship, which is double the payout of Kentucky.

Final Four Underdogs

Tennessee is projected to be the third seed by the Selection Committee, but they are paying a whopping +5000 on a National Championship futures bet. For a team getting that much love from the powers that be and also has wins over North Carolina, Arizona, and Kentucky just over a week ago, that is an incredible value.

Likely, by the time the NCAA releases its full bracket, the odds on Tennessee will have dropped.

The Houston Cougars are in or near the top-10 in most of the various power rankings, but bettors haven’t seemed to notice. The first-place team in the American Athletic Conference is paying +4000.

Darkhorses Worth a Look

Connecticut is a top-20 team, the Huskies are in third place in the Big East, and they have wins over Auburn and Villanova. The win over Villanova was just this Tuesday – UConn’s fourth win in a row – and they are playing much better basketball than their +10000 odds would suggest.

Another excellent value play is Iowa, who is also playing its best basketball as the postseason nears. The Hawkeyes, paying +10000, have won five of their last six games and rank fourth in the nation in points scored per game. Iowa ranks first in the nation in assists to turnovers, and it’s that kind of mistake-free basketball that wins games in March.

Five Teams to Beat in Upcoming NCAA Tournament

by WagerHome Blog on March 3, 2020

We are less than two weeks away from “Selection Sunday,” and that means the start of one of the greatest sporting events in the country. The NCAA Tournament always delivers some excitement and unexpected results, but some top teams will make a run as well.

Here is a look at five teams to beat in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Kansas Jayhawks

The Kansas Jayhawks are led by point guard Devon Dotson and monster center Udoka Azubuike. Kansas is once again emerging as the cream of the crop in the Big 12 Conference, and it is always a threat to win the NCAA Tournament.

This Kansas team does struggle to shoot the ball at times, but their All-American center can carry this team. Teams won’t want to see the Kansas Jayhawks in their part of the bracket when they are revealed in two weeks.

Duke Blue Devils

The Duke Blue Devils have looked like one of the top teams in the country for much of the season, but they have also suffered some bad losses of late. Duke is an extremely young team, and that has hurt them a bit in past NCAA Tournaments.

Center Vernon Carey Jr. can put this team on his back if he needs to, but they also have plenty of other weapons around him. Point guard Tre Jones is a winner, and don’t be surprised if you see Duke make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament in March.

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Gonzaga used to be considered a “Cinderella team,” but now they are considered a favorite. Head coach Mark Few has had to reload and regroup, but he has another terrific team in Spokane.

Gonzaga is the highest-scoring team in the country, and they are extremely efficient as well. Strength of schedule is always a huge question mark with this team, but they should have an easier path by earning a likely number one seed.

Maryland Terrapins

Point guard Anthony Cowan Jr. and forward Jalen Smith give Maryland one of the top 1-2 punches in the country, and they currently sit on top of the Big Ten Conference. Cowan is averaging more than 16 points per game to lead this team, and he also dishes out more than four assists per night.

NCAA

Smith is a double-double machine that is capable of scoring in the low post, or by hitting an outside shot. Depth is a question mark with this team, but their starting unit is really good.

Baylor Bears

The Baylor roster is a collection of transfers and redshirt players, but they have had a phenomenal season. Baylor spent a handful of weeks as the top-ranked team in the country, and the Bears still have a shot at winning the Big 12 Conference.

The Bears are one of the top defensive teams in the country, and they will make life difficult for opposing offenses.
