NFL Special Props for 2023

by WagerHome Blog on July 21, 2023

NFL training camps opened this week, and by early next week, all 32 teams will be conducting full-squad practices as they get ready for another season of professional football. For us, that means another season of NFL wagers and fun prop bets to get us ready for September’s kickoff.

Justin Fields – Chicago Bears

Bears quarterback Justin Fields is hoping to take another big step this season, and the special props are ready for it.

4,750 combined passing and rushing yards (+150)

This is a lot of total yards for a quarterback, and it would be more than 1,400 above his 2022 output. But he is a special player with an incredibly high ceiling. Have the Bears added enough around him to allow this kind of a leap.

400-plus passing yards in any one game (+225)

This is a bet that is more likely to happen than the season bet above. In a division with the high-scoring Lions and with games against the Chiefs, Chargers, and Cardinals, a one-game shootout where Fields goes crazy isn’t that far-fetched.

New York Jets

We’re going to get a lot of the Jets this season, thanks to the move to New York by Aaron Rodgers. They are going to be this year’s “Hard Knocks” team, and they have some of the most tempting special season props.

Aaron Rodgers: 4000-plus passing yards and Jets make playoffs (+160)

On the surface, this seems like an easy bet. Rodgers has gone over 4,000 yards 10 times in his career and 11 times he’s been to the playoffs. But he was under 4,000 yards in 2022, and the Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2009.

Garrett Wilson: 175-plus receiving yards in any one game (+275)

After winning Rookie of the Year, expectations for Garrett Wilson are off the charts. He’s an incredible talent, and Rodgers will help move him into the class of elite wide receivers.

NFL Special Props for 2023

All of that is true, and what is also true is that 175 yards is a tall order. In 2021 the Rodgers to Davante Adams connections went over 175 only once. It also only happened once in 2020 and once in 2019. Just three times in 108 games together.

Rodgers and Wilson will have many big games together this season, but to go over 175 yards is a tall order and not all that likely to happen.

Dalvin Cook’s Next NFL Team

  • Patriots (+150)
  • Dolphins (+200)
  • Jets (+400)
  • Broncos (+1500)

Dalvin Cook is a 27-year-old four-time Pro Bowler, and he will have a team by the end of training camp. The odds suggest quite strongly that it will be in the AFC East, but not with the Bills, where his brother James plays.

NFL Preseason Week 2 Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on August 17, 2022

Despite it being the NFL preseason, and with so many starters out, the opening full week of NFL football turned in some great performances, great games, and great opportunities to make money wagering.

NFL preseason Week 2 should be more of the same, but better, as each team begins to narrow in on its best players, and they begin to open the playbook just a little more.

Chicago Bears (+3.5) at Seattle Seahawks – Thursday

There is disappointment in Seattle, as the quarterback competition between Geno Smith and Drew Lock takes a pause for at least one week, with Lock out due to a COVID-19 positive test.

So that means that instead of seeing Lock as the starter against the Bears – Smith was the starter in Week 1 – we’re getting more Smith, followed by Jacob Eason.

That gives the edge to the Bears and Justin Fields, who won at the end in Week 1 at home and are a much better bet to cover the spread late against Eason, who has no chance at regular season playing time in Seattle.

Carolina Panthers at New England Patriots (+2) – Friday

Beware the home underdog. As was mentioned in this space before last week’s games, in the preseason, the underdog wins outright and against the spread at a much higher rate than in the regular NFL season, and this is especially true of home underdogs.

The Panthers will trot out two former starting quarterbacks to play in this game, with Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold engaged in two more weeks of quarterback competition. Beyond Mac Jones, the Patriots have Brian Hoyer and Bailey Zappe, who should never see the field in New England in the regular season.

But it’s time for the Patriots to get a win, and beating the Panthers at home would be a good start.

NFL

San Francisco 49ers (+4.5) at Minnesota Vikings

One of the big winners from Week 1 of the preseason was the 49ers. Trey Lance displayed the arm that had them moving up to take him in the 2021 draft, and it has become clear that he is a top candidate to be a breakout star in 2022.

We’re buying all of the Lance stock we can get, and especially when he and the Niners are more than a field goal underdog in the NFL preseason.

San Francisco won 28-21 in Week 1, and that was with 25 starters resting. So there is no reason to think that they can’t put up a similar performance against the Vikings, who have Kirk Cousins coming off a bout with COVID.

Three Best NFL Bets to Make in Week 3

by WagerHome Blog on September 21, 2021

Chicago Bears at Cleveland Browns (-7.5)

With Andy Dalton nursing a bone bruise on his knee, everyone in Chicago is getting ready for the first NFL start for Justin Fields. He came in last Sunday against the Bengals and showed everyone why he has so much potential and why he might not be ready.

Late in the fourth quarter, a terrible Fields interception allowed the Bengals to stay in the game. But on the next series, an excellent Fields scramble for 10 yards picked up the first down and helped seal the win.

He gets the Browns to pass rush in his first-ever start. On the one hand, you like having a mobile quarterback against players like Myles Garrett. On the other hand, Cleveland’s defense is good, Fields is raw, and there will be multiple rookie mistakes. That’s why the Browns win this game by 10 points and cover the spread.

Arizona Cardinals (-7) at Jacksonville Jaguars

NFL

It’s the battle of No. 1 picks, as 2019 top pick Kyler Murray leads the Cardinals against 2021 top pick Trevor Lawrence and his Jacksonville Jaguars.

He’s only made two NFL starts, but this is his team. Mainly because he is the only thing worth getting excited about in Jacksonville. The Jags are not a good football team, and the Cardinals should put up another huge day offensively. They scored 38 against Tennessee, 34 against Minnesota, and they will get into the mid-30s again against the Jaguars.

Murray looks like an MVP candidate, Lawrence looks like a rookie, and Arizona easily covers this spread.

Green Bay Packers (+3.5) at San Francisco 49ers

After Week 1 we weren’t sure if the Packers would win a game this season. After Week 2 it looks like Aaron Rodgers wants another MVP award. So which team shows up for Week 3?

The Packers are much closer to the team that annihilated Detroit in the second half on Monday. Rodgers was Rodgers, throwing four touchdown passes, and Aaron Jones was electric, catching three of those touchdowns and running for a fourth.

San Francisco held on for dear life to beat those same Lions in Week 1, then methodically took care of business against the Eagles in Week 2. They haven’t shown the ability to keep up with Green Bay if the Packers are on.

The Packers will be on, and Sunday night in San Francisco, they will win in a mild upset.
