PGA Championship Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on August 4, 2020

It’s finally here – the first major championship of the PGA season, this weekend’s PGA Championship. By this time in 2019, we’d already crowned the champion of all four majors.

Instead, a COVID-19 postponement of The Masters and the U.S. Open, and the cancellation of The Open Championship has the PGA Championship giving out the first major hardware of 2020, and golf fans and bettors could not be more ready.

Odds to Win Outright

We’ve seen some wonderfully packed fields over the last several weeks of play, so it’s not that the play will be much different this weekend. But the major tournament stakes are something we haven’t seen in golf in more than 55 weeks – the longest absence of major golf since 1944.

Your favorites to win this weekend at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco are:

  • Rory McIlroy +800
  • Brooks Koepka +1000
  • Bryson Dechambeau +1100
  • Dustin Johnson +1200
  • Justin Thomas +1200
  • Jon Rahm +1300
  • Tiger Woods +1600
  • Xander Schauffele +2200
  • Patrick Cantlay +2500
  • Webb Simpson +2500
  • Hideki Matsuyama +2800
  • Collin Morikawa +2800
  • Justin Rose +3000

Rory McIlroy remains the consensus best player in the world, so it’s not surprising that he’s the favorite in most fields. But Brooks Koepka was the winner in both 2018 and 2019, and he just finished in second at the St. Jude Invitational in Memphis over the weekend.

In the history of golf, dating back to 1860, only six times has a major championship been won by the same golfer three consecutive years. The last was Peter Thomsen at The Open in 1956. Will Koepka become the seventh?

Golfers to Watch

Justin Thomas (+1200) was the winner at WGC St. Jude last weekend and has returned to the top of the world golf rankings.

pga championship

Tiger Woods (+1600) is a four-time winner of the PGA but finished tied for 40th in the only tournament he’s played since the season restarted. A bet on him at +1600 is on reputation alone, and not on actual golf.

In terms of value plays, Webb Simpson (+2500) and Collin Morikawa (+2800) make for better bets than Woods. Simpson won the RBC Heritage and is the fourth-ranked golfer in the world. Morikawa won the Workday Charity Open three weeks ago and is currently ranked 12th in the world.

At +800, McIlroy has far less value. However, it is worth noting that the 2015 WGC Match Play was held at this same course in San Francisco, and McIlroy won.

Pay Per Head Software

All of the sports that are supposed to be playing are. And even a few – like the NBA and NHL – have become bonus sports here in August. So if you have your own bookmaking business, or have ever thought of starting one, now is time to join forces with a top pay per head service provider.

3M Open PGA Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on July 21, 2020

The world of golf has a new No. 1 player, and it is much deserved. Jon Rahm only shot a 75 on Sunday at Muirfield, but considering what everyone else was doing, that was an impressive number and good enough to secure his first PGA win of the season.

The Memorial had a major championship-caliber field, and it ended up playing just like a major championship.

Now, after two straight weeks in Ohio, the tour makes the trip up to Minnesota for the 3M Open, and the quality of the field takes a bit of step back after everyone played The Memorial.

The 3M Field

Compared to what we’ve seen in the last few weeks, this field will be the weakest since the restart. But even so, there are still 10 of the world’s top 60 golfers playing this weekend, and three of those golfers shot 62s at this event last year – Scott Piercy, Matthew Wolff, and Lucas Glover.

The favorites in the field look like this:

  • Dustin Johnson +1000
  • Brooks Koepka +1200
  • Tommy Fleetwood +1200
  • Tony Finau +1200
  • Paul Casey +2000
  • Harris English +2700
  • Bubba Watson +2900
  • Matthew Wolff +2900
  • Lucas Glover +3100
  • Russell Henley +3100

Not showing up on this list but currently ranked 29th in the world is Bernd Wiesberger, who can be found on the betting board at +8000. He’s struggled in this most unusual of seasons, but the Austrian did win three times last year. With a fairly wide-open field, the +8000 number seems like really good value.

Dustin Johnson opens the week as the favorite, although he just missed the cut badly at The Memorial. But of the top favorites in the field, keep an eye on Tommy Fleetwood.

3m

This is his first tournament since play resumed last month. The 12th-ranked golfer in the world has been with his family in England since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March but is finally back to play in the 3M Open.

Pay Per Head

This is shaping up to the biggest week of sports since the Super Bowl, as not only do we have golf, NASCAR, and UFC – which have become regulars since reopening in June – but we also have the start of the 60-game Major League Baseball season.

If you own your own bookmaking business, now is the perfect time to supercharge the offerings to your clients by joining forces with a top pay per head software provider. You will get a completely customizable website that is yours to own and keep.

You will have access to detailed client reports so that you can better gear your business to meet those clients’ needs. And your clients will have access to a comprehensive list of sports from around the world, and the most up to date odds anywhere in the business.

If you’ve never seen pay per head software in action and need a demo, WagerHome.com has you covered. See how it works, try it free for four weeks, and make sure when the wave of new sports betting hits this week, your business is ready to capitalize.

The Memorial PGA Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on July 14, 2020

The PGA Tour has been back for more than a month, and fans have been treated to some of the most competitive golf in years. But something’s been missing. As good as it’s been, there is just one more thing that could make this golf even better.

Tiger Woods.

Not only is Tiger playing in his first tournament since February, but The Memorial is easily one of his favorite tournaments. He’s won on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course a record five times and finished top-10 a total of nine times.

Packed Field

Of course, Tiger isn’t the only top golfer playing this weekend. This loaded field features each of the top nine players in the world, with Brooks Koepka being a late addition in the week.

Overall, 26 of the 30 golfers who played in last year’s Tour Championship are playing this weekend, which is the most since the tour restarted play in June. And along with Woods and his five wins are the 2018 champion – Bryson DeChambeau – and the current defending champion – Patrick Cantlay.

With a win at Muirfield in 2018 and four top-10 finishes in four starts since the PGA resumed in June, DeChambeau comes into The Memorial as the favorite.

Odds on the field:

  • Bryson DeChambeau +1000
  • Justin Thomas +1100
  • Rory McIlroy +1400
  • Patrick Cantlay +1400
  • Dustin Johnson +1600
  • Viktor Hovland +2200
  • Jon Rahm +2200
  • Collin Morikawa +2200
  • Hideki Matsuyama +2500
  • Brooks Koepka +2500
  • Webb Simpson +2800
  • Xander Schauffele +2800
  • Tiger Woods +2800

Bets to Watch

It’s a rare confluence of events to have the previous tournament also take place at Muirfield. How that will influence the scoring at The Memorial – which will play a little shorter, but with thicker rough – remains to be seen. But Collin Morikawa just came away a winner on this course last weekend, and at +2200, he might be worth the value.

pga

It’s tempting to jump on Tiger as a five-time champion at +2800. But it is worth remembering that despite his great history at The Memorial, he last won here in 2012. And other than his charity round with Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning, he hasn’t played competitively since February.

Because of the way this event plays, approach shots are more important than driving. One name that stands out when considering strokes gained on approach and quality approach shots is Webb Simpson. He is one of the best in the world, and great value at +2800.

Pay Per Head

This is one of the best fields of golfers you’ll ever see outside a major championship. If you are taking bets on this event, you absolutely must give your bookmaking service the advantages it deserves.

That means partnering with a top bookie software provider, which gives you a customizable website, detailed client-specific reports, and access to complete and automatic lines on all golf events worldwide. PGA Workday Charity Open Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on July 7, 2020

When you began this week looking ahead at the upcoming sports betting calendar, you probably didn’t recognize the PGA Tour stop called the Workday Charity Open. That’s because it is a first-year replacement for the John Deere Classic that was canceled due to the coronavirus.

The John Deere Classic will return next year, but for this week, the Workday Charity Open should definitely be on your radar.

Played on the same course, Muirfield Village Golf Course, as The Memorial – which will follow next week – this event will feature three of the top five players in the world, including the return of Brooks Koepka, who withdrew from the Travelers Championship after his caddie tested positive for COVID-19.

The Odds

After his incredible performance over the weekend in which he finished first in driving distance, first in putting, and first on the leaderboard, Bryson DeChambeau is going to sit this weekend out. He won The Memorial in 2018 and will return to the field for that event on July 16.

This week he likely would have been the odds-on favorite, had he decided to play. So with DeChambeau out, here is how the favorites shake out.

  • Justin Thomas +1100
  • Patrick Cantlay +1400
  • Hideki Matsuyama +1600
  • Jon Rahm +1600
  • Brooks Koepka +1600
  • Xander Schauffele +1800
  • Viktor Hovland +2200
  • Justin Rose +2200
  • Patrick Reed +3000
  • Rickie Fowler +3000

Patrick Cantlay won at Muirfield last year. For The Memorial, this course runs a bit shorter and with higher rough. But even with the slight changes to the course for this tournament, Cantlay is an obvious top pick.

Justin Thomas, the top name on this list, has a pair of top-10 finishes since golf resumed in June.

pga

Hideki Matsuyama is the surprise on this list. Ranked 23rd in the world, he’s played in two PGA Tour events since play resumed. He missed the cut at the RBC Heritage and finished tied for 21st at last weekend’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, though he did finish sixth at The Memorial last year.

Bookmaker’s Advantage

If you are one of the lucky few that have been running your own bookmaking business since sports started back up, and have been able to take advantage of a wide-open industry, congratulations. And now is the perfect time to up that advantage even more by becoming partners with a top of line pay per head software provider.

PGA Tour Travelers Championship Betting Picks

by WagerHome Blog on June 23, 2020

If there ever was a silver lining to COVID-19 and three months without golf, it is this: Each of these first tournaments the PGA Tour has had since returning has had the best fields we’ve ever seen competing outside a major championship.

Everyone was chomping at the bit to get back to golf, and the return has been everything you could hope for. Last weekend at the RBC Heritage, Webb Simpson, the fifth-ranked player in the world, birdied five of his last seven holes to take a one-shot victory and set a course record at -22.

It was another great week of golf and another terrific ending. And this coming weekend at the Travelers should see the great play continue.

Stacked Field

Normally, the Travelers Championship suffers by being played the week after the U.S. Open. With the top golfers always showing up there, many of them skip the event at TPC Highlands the following week.

Not this time, as nine of the top 10 players are in the field, 15 of the top 20, and the winners of 25 total major championships.

The top odds in the field are:

  • Rory McIlroy +1200
  • Justin Thomas +1200
  • Bryson DeChambeau +1400
  • Webb Simpson +1800
  • Brooks Koepka +2000
  • Jon Rahm +2200
  • Justin Rose +2200
  • Patrick Cantlay +2200
  • Daniel Berger +2200
  • Dustin Johnson +2800
  • Xander Schauffele +3000
  • Bubba Watson +3000

Out of another great field, there are a couple of players that you specifically need to keep an eye on. Bubba Watson won the Travelers in 2010, 2015, and 2018. He loves this course and knows this course, and he should be higher than +3000. That is a really good bet.

When making any prop bets, you need to know that this course is also prone to give up great scores. Jim Furyk once shot a 58 here. Phil Mickelson shot a 61. The 72-hole course record is -22, held by Kenny Perry.

Last year’s winner, Chez Reavie, shot a back-nine 28 on his way to a four-stroke win. Reavie has opened at +12500 for the tournament this week and might be worth a small bet at those odds, considering his recent history here.

pga

Others to Watch

Along with the favorites and recent Travelers champions, there are some other names worth watching this weekend.

Sergio Garcia (+4500) just shot -19 at Hilton Head and finished just three strokes off the leader.

Dylan Frittelli (+17500) is a longshot this weekend, but he finished last weekend with an impressive 62 on Sunday. If not for his 71 on Saturday, he would have been in the mix at the end.

Keep an eye on Abraham Ancer (+4000). He just finished second, had three rounds of 65 or lower, and has now climbed into the top 25 World Golf Rankings.

Pay Per Head Software

Bookmakers, it’s time to get into the pay per head game if you haven’t already. You get automatic odds, customizable client reports, your own personal website, and options to offer any sport, anywhere.

PGA RBC Heritage Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on June 16, 2020

After this last weekend, the world agrees that PGA golf without fans in the gallery is much better than no golf at all. The golfing at Colonial was phenomenal, with a 73rd hole needed to determine the tournament winner. And it could have been a three-person playoff if not for a lipped-out putt on the 17th.

Daniel Berger was your longshot winner, going into the tournament at +8000. The other big winner was the PGA Tour, which pulled off a great tournament to re-start the season, setting itself up for a good summer of golf to come.

Another Star-Studded Field at Hilton Head

You like winners? We’ve got winners. This weekend at the RBC Heritage in South Carolina, there will be a total of 114 golfers competing who have all won on the PGA Tour. They only started keeping track of that stat in 2000, but this is the most winners in a single tournament field ever recorded.

And just like last week, the world’s top five players will all be there, including Rory McIlroy making his first trip to Hilton Head in more than 10 years. The odds for the top five ranked players are:

  • Rory McIlroy +1100
  • Jon Rahm +1800
  • Brooks Koepka +3500
  • Justin Thomas +1400
  • Dustin Johnson +3500

Along with McIlroy making his first start at Harbour Town since 2009, Rahm and Koepka are making their first-ever starts at the iconic Hilton Head course.

The biggest favorite outside the world’s top five is Bryson DeChambeau. The 12th-ranked player in the world, who finished third at Hilton Head in 2018, is at +1600.

Xander Schauffele, who just narrowly missed at Colonial and was the leader after 54 holes, is at +2200. Collin Morikawa, the runner-up at Colonial, is on the board at +2500.

pga

Other Harbour Town Betting Tips

While this field is packed with former winners, don’t ever sleep on the golfers looking for that first victory. Last year at Harbour Town, C.T. Pan was a 125-to-1 longshot who captured his first PGA win. In 2018 Satoshi Kodaira won this tournament as a 250-to-1 longshot.

This is a short course but challenging. The smart money this weekend will be on accuracy and tactical ability around the greens. If a golfer is particularly good at scrambling to save par, keep an eye on him. This is his course.

Pay Per Head Software

It was a longshot that won at Colonial last week, and as you can see, this week is another course made for big underdogs. The golfing is good, and the betting is even better, so it’s past time for bookmakers to take advantage of that by teaming up with a top pay per head software provider.

At WagerHome.com, you get a fully customizable website, detailed client reports, customizable and automated odds, and your customers will be supported 24 hours a day. Try it all right now risk-free for four weeks before you miss out on another big weekend of sports betting paydays.

PGA Charles Schwab Challenge Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on June 9, 2020

The PGA Tour returns this week at Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas, and after such a long layoff, it’s impossible to know exactly what to expect from the golfers as they return to the course without fans. But what we do know is that we can expect some incredible golf.

Because this is the first tournament back since the PGA suspended the season before The Players Championship on March 12, for the first time in the 74 years they’ve been playing golf at Colonial, the top five players in the world will all be competing.

Stacked Field

According to the Official World Golf Rankings, the Charles Schwab Challenge will feature the best five golfers in the world.

  • Rory McIlroy +750
  • Jon Rahm +1000
  • Brooks Koepka +2200
  • Justin Thomas +1400
  • Dustin Johnson +2800

Of course, the two golfers who most recently played in a competition were Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, as they teed it up in The Match: Champions for Charity. But oddsmakers don’t see that round in May having any influence on what happens this weekend.

Phil is +12500 to win, and Tiger isn’t playing. He hasn’t played at Colonial since 1997, so his absence is not unexpected.

The Rest of the Top 20

Altogether, 16 of the top 20 golfers in the world will be competing this weekend. The other 11 in attendance are (by world ranking):

  • Patrick Reed +2800
  • Webb Simpson +2000
  • Xander Schauffele +2500
  • Bryson DeChambeau +2200
  • Justin Rose +4500
  • Marc Leishman +4000
  • Tony Finau +4000
  • Matt Kuchar +4000
  • Gary Woodland +5000
  • Louis Oosthuizen +6600
  • Shane Lowry +6600

pga

The tour’s most recent winner, Tyrrell Hatton, is not in the field this week. But the winner before him, Sungjae Im, is. He won the Honda Classic with an impressive -4 (66) in the fourth round on March 1.

The Korean is currently ranked 23rd in the world and is listed at +3300 to win this week in Fort Worth.

Prop Bets of Note

Winning Margin

  • One Stroke +225
  • Two Strokes +350
  • Three Strokes +550
  • Four Strokes or More +275
  • Playoff +400

Hole-In-One in Tournament

  • Yes -150
  • No +110
  • Rory McIlroy Hole in One +6600

One other prop bet to watch. The last time out, both Justin Rose and Tony Finau missed the cut. The odds on them making the cut this week are:

  • Justin Rose Yes (-225)/No (+165)
  • Tony Finau Yes (-265)/No (+188)

Each week, more sports are resuming their seasons, which means that each week that you wait to join forces with a pay per head software provider is another opportunity lost.

Tiger, Phil Welcome Brady, Manning To Course For Betting Extravaganza

by WagerHome Blog on May 21, 2020

The Match II – or The Match: Champions for Charity, as it’s officially called – is the ultimate in made-for-TV golfing events. It’s also going to be the ultimate in betting events, as there is a line on almost any possible scenario.

In Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, there are 20 major championships between them, with the bulk going to Tiger. In Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, there are eight Super Bowl rings, with the bulk of those going to Brady.

Match Winner

In 2018 when Phil and Tiger met in the first of these mano-a-mano events, it was Phil winning in 22 holes. But that was before Tiger returned to the top with his 2019 Masters win.

With that in our recent collective memories, it’s the team of Tiger and Peyton that is the clear match favorite.

  • Tiger Woods/Peyton Manning -225
  • Phil Mickelson/Tom Brady +185

Tiger is clearly the hotter golfer right now, and Manning is the quarterback currently in retirement and with more time to dedicate to golf. So these seem like appropriate odds.

Hole-By-Hole Props

And if you, like the rest of us, have been craving sports betting action of any kind, there is absolutely zero chance that a single bet on which pair wins is going to satisfy your need. That’s why it’s so great that we can all place wagers on any single hole.

Hole 1 through 18, Tie is the favorite for each hole. But someone has to win, and if you can predict who that someone is, there is money to be made.

Other Bets

Some of the other bets we’re looking at include:

First to Go 1 Up

  • Woods/Manning -150
  • Mickelson/Brady +120

Lead After 3 Holes

  • Woods/Manning +135
  • Mickelson/Brady +210

Lead After 9 Holes

  • Woods/Manning -105
  • Mickelson/Brady +140

Closest to Pin (8th)

  • Manning -180 vs. Brady +120
  • Woods -135 vs. Mickelson -115

Closest to Pin (12th)

  • Manning -180 vs. Brady +120
  • Woods -135 vs. Mickelson -115

tiger

You can also bet on the many different holes which the match might end:

  • Match Finish on 18th or Later +130
  • Match Finish on 17th +300
  • Match Finish on 16th +340
  • Match Finish on 15th +550
  • Match Finish on 14th +900

One of the favorite prop bets that you can wager: Will Tom Brady wear at least one Super Bowl ring during the match? No is the favorite at -1000. If Brady does wear one, the payoff is +600.

Pay Per Head Software

This weekend’s golf is a bookmaker’s dream, and even more so if that bookmaker is teamed up with a top pay per head software provider. Get a fully customizable website. Let your clients bet on events around the world, and with odds automatically updated.

Outsource all of your administrative needs, so you can focus on bringing in more customers. And at WagerHome.com, you can try out all of the above services free for the next four weeks – taking you and your customers through the PGA Tour’s return at Colonial on June 11.

PGA Tour To Begin Soon, Giving Golf Betting Options

by WagerHome Blog on May 5, 2020

If as a bookie, you are lucky enough to be partnered with WagerHome.com as your pay per head software provider, then you’ve managed the difficulties of life without sports better than most. And that abyss that is the empty sports calendar thanks to COVID-19 is about to come to a close.

On June 11, the PGA Tour will return at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial in Ft. Worth, Texas, and sports fans and bettors alike couldn’t be more ready. It won’t look exactly like the golf we’ve been watching, but it will be close.

Spectator-Free Golf

There will be no galleries of fans when golf tees off in a month. There will only be a stripped-down version of the ubiquitous gear and merchandising vans that have become a PGA Tour staple.

But if any sport can be played responsibly, safely, and with all social distancing measures in place, it is golf. The only real big challenge left is the travel required for the golfers, their caddies, and the rest of their teams.

But where there’s a will, there’s a way, and the PGA Tour is showing us a way forward with the release of an entirely new schedule for the rest of 2020 that will include plenty of wagering opportunities.

2020 PGA Tour Revised Schedule

If you haven’t yet signed up with WagerHome.com as your pay per head software provider, now is the time to do so. After the Charles Schwabb Classic is played June 11-14, golf will not miss another weekend through September. And by July 8 at the John Deere Classic, there is even a plan in place to allow spectators.

The World Golf Championships in Memphis will still go ahead, now slated for the end of July when the Olympics were originally scheduled. And the ever-popular Memorial Tournament has moved to mid-July and will now be played the weekend The British Open was to be played.

The Majors

Speaking of The Open Championship, which has been postponed for a year and will not be played in 2020, there are still major championships on the calendar, and they are currently taking wagers.

pga tour

The PGA Championship is still scheduled for August 6-9, and it’s no surprise that Rory McIlroy is still the favorite at +600. Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Justin Thomas are tied behind him at +1200.

The U.S. Open has been moved to September 17-20, and the current betting lines are much tighter there. McIlroy is +900, followed by Koepka and Johnson at +1000. Tiger Woods is fourth at +1400.

Just one week after the U.S. Open champion is crowned, the Ryder Cup will be played. If ever there is an event that needs spectators, it’s the Ryder Cup.

The U.S.-European tilt is to be played in Wisconsin this year, and the American team is the current favorite at -155. The Europeans pay +150, and a tied result is on the board at +1100.

2020 Masters Up For Grabs With Tons Of Potential Winners

by WagerHome Blog on March 12, 2020

The 2020 Masters will have its annual event at Augusta National Golf Club on April 9. This prestigious golfing event puts a mark on anyone’s golfing resume and puts your name among some of the best golfers.

Best 10 Golfers By World Ranking

This outstanding list of golfers is one I like to study to compare and contrast each golfer for the Masters tournament betting. This gives a rough estimate of how each golfer compares against the rest of the competition.

These golfers continue to play consistently well enough to make the top 10 in the official world golf ranking list. I like to view this as a beginning point for looking at the Masters tournament odds.

The top 10 currently are:

  1. Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland)
  2. Jon Rahm (Spain)
  3. Brooks Koepka (USA)
  4. Justin Thomas (USA)
  5. Dustin Johnson (USA)
  6. Patrick Cantlay (USA)
  7. Adam Scott (Australia)
  8. Webb Simpson (USA)
  9. Patrick Reed (USA)
  10. Tommy Fleetwood (England)

* rankings are subject to change

2020 Masters Odds

The following 10 golfers are predicted to have the best odds at winning the 2020 Masters:

  • Rory McIlroy 15-2
  • Tiger Woods 10-1
  • Jon Rahm 11-1
  • Brooks Koepka 12-1
  • Dustin Johnson 14-1
  • Justin Thomas 14-1
  • Patrick Cantlay 22-1
  • Xander Schauffele 22-1
  • Jordan Spieth 27-1
  • Tony Finau 29-1

* odds are subject to change

Best Three Golfers That Could Win

Rory Mcllroy: Mcllroy is the current overall best golfer according to the rankings. Since his 2019 play, he has been on an excellent run this far into the season. Last year he placed 21st at the Masters, so he will definitely be looking to improve from then.

Masters

Dustin Johnson: Dustin Johnson is the fifth-ranked golfer and has a knack for playing well around the Masters. Last year, he tied for second at the Masters and performed very well to earn that spot. He has two top 10 finishes this year, and you can expect him to perform well during the Masters tournament.
